A Practical Study on the Intervention of Group Social Work in Improving the Relationship between Grandparents and Grandchildren in Left behind Families
The economic development of China has brought about a largenumber of rural population migration and mobility, and more and more youngpeople are forced to hand over their children to their parents for help and caredue to busy livelihoods. The time spent by grandchildren and grandparents has increased, even far exceeding the time spent by parents accompanying theirchildren. Therefore, the importance of good parent-child relationships cannotbe ignored. Due to factors such as the level of knowledge and life experienceof the elderly, as well as issues with grandchildren themselves, there is a lackof initiative in communication between grandparents and grandchildren,and information feedback is not timely. These issues not only affect normalcommunication between generations, but also gradually estrange the parentchildrelationship between generations. This article conducts household visitsto grandparents and grandchildren in rural Z, Gansu Province, to gain apreliminary understanding of the problems in parent-child relationships inthese families. The method of group work is used to intervene in the problem ofgrandparents in left behind families, and relevant theories are used to guide thedesign of group activities. An interactive platform is built to achieve two-waycommunication and improve parent-child relationships, The conclusion is thatthe concept of grandparents and the behavior of Left-behind children in Chinaare important factors that affect the relationship between grandparents andgrandchildren. And reflect on it to explore ways for social work to effectivelyintervene in the intergenerational communication of Left-behind children inChina families.
