China’s current retirement age is lower than the world average. On the
one hand, with the aging of the population becoming more and more serious,
the shortage of labor force and the gap of Pension Reserve will gradually expand,
which will affect China’s economic development; On the other hand, with the
progress of science and technology and the rapid development of medical
and health conditions, the average life expectancy of the population has been
prolonged, resulting in a great waste of labor resources for the elderly aged 50
or 60. In this social context, the academic proposal on delaying the retirement
age has gradually entered the public’s vision and aroused widespread heated
debate among the public. However, the original retirement age has established
a deep-rooted position in the hearts of the people. The huge survival pressure
faced by modern people has led to strong opposition to the proposal of delaying
retirement once it came out. If this policy wants to be effectively implemented,
it must be implemented step by step and can not be achieved overnight, and a
series of perfect institutional arrangements are needed. Smoothly promoting
the reform of the retirement age will help to ensure social stability. In the long
run, it will also help to solve the labor problem and the gap of old-age security
caused by population aging, and will ultimately help to safeguard the interests
of the people.
