Dewey holds that philosophy is not only the product of social history
and the development of various corresponding cultural forms, but also has
an important influence on the change and development of the latter. Human
memory, imagination, emotion and so on are derived from practice in the final
analysis, but they go beyond the original practice and real life after the process
of rational, logical and so on. Philosophy is the result of the separation of the
two. Among modern western philosophers, Dewey is famous for his emphasis
on criticizing and surpassing traditional metaphysics. However, he did not
completely reject metaphysics itself, and he even affirmed metaphysics on the
occasion of reconciling real life, practice, emotion and belief.
