With the support of modern media network technology, “fan culture” has expanded into the sports field, resulting in various sports “fan circles”. However, due to some irrational behaviors of sports fans, it has caused a bad social impact and damaged the image of sports “fan circles”, leading to the gradual stigmatization of sports “fan circles”. Based on the theory of interactive ritual chain, this paper expounds the interactive ritual process in sports fan circles, and clarifies the causes of stigmatization from the perspective of ritual formation: the confusion of fan circles boundaries caused by virtual body co-presence; malicious emotional contagion leading to fan conflicts; and the negative emotions aroused by abnormal in-circle symbols. Based on the above causes of stigmatization, targeted methods to eliminate it are proposed: clarifying boundaries by standardizing the layering of sports fan circles; strengthening supervision to combat malicious hype behaviors in fan circles; and guiding education to promote correct circle cultural symbols.
