In the traditional coverage of health risk issues, a communication landscape in whichthe West dominates public opinion and the West is strong and the East is weak remains, and thecoverage of the epidemic is not limited to science and technology, but is also a game in the field ofpolitical communication. The different positions, ideologies, and values of the media affect the publicperception and the direction of public opinion. In this paper, we analyze the reporting tendenciesand characteristics of different media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, WeiboSelf-Media Account, Penghuai News, and Associated Press, in the context of the widely controversialmonkey pox epidemic, and examine how the media in the Chinese context construct reports on themonkey pox epidemic to counteract Western public opinion.
