The discussion on female appearance has existed since ancient times, but in the era of visual
culture, the mass media has established the standard of female appearance beauty with its powerful
influence, and women’s pursuit of appearance and beauty has presented a new pattern, which leads to
the problem of appearance anxiety has been widely discussed, and appearance anxiety has become a
realistic dilemma faced by modern women. Based on this, from the perspective of visual culture, this
paper analyzes the causes of female appearance anxiety, and believes that the cognitive bias under
mimicry environment, the value loss under brainwashing marketing and the double trapped under
visual consumption culture are the main causes, and proposes solutions from the perspective of women
themselves and the media, in order to promote the solution of female appearance anxiety.
