The Press Council of Ireland and the Office of the Press Ombudsman is Irish self-regulatory
organization for the press. This body provides the public with a fast, fair and free channel for news
complaints and matters related to press complaints. The Irish Press Self-Regulatory Organization has
formulated a detailed complaint and appeal process, and issued an ethics code to ensure that it has
a basis in its operation. In the past five years, complaints received by the Irish Press Self-Regulatory
Organization mainly involve issues such as violation of the authenticity and accuracy of media
reports and invasion of privacy. In the process of handling complaints, the Irish Press Self-Regulatory
Organization upholds the concept of non-confrontational negotiation. It has broadened the channels
for the public to participate in media governance to a certain extent because there were relatively wide
range of complaints. This organization promoted the healthy development of the Irish media ecosystem.
