Coterie Journals, typically represented by the Crescent Moon, are tantamount to “Coterie
Media”, namely an independent, autonomous and folk “collective medium” in comparison with a highly
systemized and entrepreneurial medium. The coterie journals, especially those affiliated with the new
cultural and literary associations, are endowed with their own characters in terms of medium properties
and communication methods: firstly, comparatively independent ownership and management;
secondly, an editorial regime combining collectivity and individuality; thirdly, elitism associated with
distinct communication subjects; fourthly, highly-screened audience and its sub-collectivity.
